چکیده
Abstract Background Asthma-COPD overlap (ACO) according to GINA and GOLD is not a single disease described by persistent airflow limitation with several features usually associated asthma COPD. Some different protocols were proposed diagnose ACO, besides those reported in guidelines. Despite the discrepancy between all diagnostic protocols, diagnosis of ACO still worthy as it may lead more appropriate treatment plan. In Egypt, prevalence hardly estimated due lack database patients. Our aim work was detect patients diagnosed having chronic limiting disease. Results group (75 patients), 53.3% (40 patients) 3 statistically significant favoring criteria; post-BDR test FEV1/FVC < 70%, longer duration, sputum neutrophilia ≥ 57%. While COPD 42.7% (32 four higher BDR, presence personal history either or atopy eosinophils > 1%. Conclusions has an underestimated among More consensus guidelines are needed focus on effective practical criteria such hidden

Airflow limitation and airway dimensions in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
RATIONALE Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is characterized by airflow limitation caused by emphysema and/or airway narrowing. Computed tomography has been widely used to assess emphysema severity, but less attention has been paid to the assessment of airway disease using computed tomography. OBJECTIVES To obtain longitudinal images and accurately analyze short axis images of airw...

OBJECTIVES Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is one of the main late complications of sulfur mustard poisoning. The aim of this study was to evaluate serum levels of interleukin (IL)-6 in war veterans with pulmonary complications of sulfur mustard poisoning and their correlation with severity of airways disease. METHODS Fifty consecutive patients with sulfur mustard poisoning and s...

Background and Purpose: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) has been recognized as a risk factor for invasive aspergillosis. Airway colonization by Aspergillus species is a common feature of chronic pulmonary diseases. Nowadays, the incidence of COPD has increased in critically ill patients. The aim of the present study was to isolate and identify Aspergillus colonies in the respirator...

Background: One of the important etiologies for cryptogenic stroke is paradoxical embolization secondary to Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO). Foramen ovale can secondarily reopen due to Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH) which is common among the older age. PAH is known as a frequent and life threatening complication of COPD. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of PFO between COP...

BACKGROUND Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is characterised by partially reversible airflow limitation. Many patients have little reversibility to short acting bronchodilators, but long acting bronchodilators are frequently advocated. OBJECTIVES To determine the effectiveness of long acting beta-2 adrenoceptor agonists in COPD patients with low reversibility to short-acting bronc...
